Media Minded: Brand New Walkie-Talkies!

I've been thinking about how quickly things become dated. H dug out our old cellphones the other night, just a quick jaunt down memory lane. Who knows why we keep these things anyway. The first phones date back five or six years, and they are tiny. "These look like toys!" H exclaimed. The second set, slider phones about three years old, are slightly larger. He then put them next to our current qwerty keyboard phones, the largest of the three, to illustrate our Cellphone Evolution. These newest phones are even on the verge of extinction now because they are not touchscreen iPhones.

And when will iPhones give way to the next technology -- and what will it look like? I remember when everyone thought cellphones would just keep getting smaller and smaller. But I think that ship has sailed -- talking or texting on those tiny things required a magnifying glass and an unnaturally sharp fingernail.

Nostalgia time! Check out how far removed we are from the Atari videogames and massive walkie-talkies from 1984 film "Cloak & Dagger" (they just don't make movies like this anymore!).





It makes you wonder how long before the 3D of today looks old school. How long before the high-def videogames of today look like child's play. How long before our iPads look like stone tablets. What do you think? Do you keep up with technology?
