What I'm wearing:
Maxi dress: Target
Shrug: Thrifted
Necklace: F21, I think
This is what I wore Friday night to a Craft Cabinet party hosted by bloggers extraordinaire Jules and Andrea. The premise? Meet, mingle and bring materials for a craft you've been wanting to complete.
Hmm ... a craft? Well, I just so happen to have a few things I need to make (see: 33 Before 34). And I just so happen to have materials for a so-simple-it's-ridiculous bracelet I've been putting off making since February. In fact, I should just fess up right now and say that before Friday I had only accomplished one craft out of 33.
Excuse me while I whistle nonchalantly and look the opposite direction.
Ahem. Back to the party. I collected my paltry supplies, donned a super lightweight outfit (last seen here) to combat the never-ending heat wave and headed to Salvage Life in Long Beach.
I was so nervous to make new friends. I can't remember the last time I walked into a room of relative strangers and introduced myself blindly. Probably grade school? And silly me. I had no business cards on me or any other indication that I belonged in a room of bloggers. Grown-up meet-and-greets are so different than playground hellos. What, we can't just go play on the monkey bars and sit together at lunch?
No, but we can grab a glass of wine and sit together while we work on our crafts and check out the pretty things in our vintage store setting. Turns out I can craft. Maybe not well, but I can at least get into the zone and finish. I made three bracelets and painted a few rocks (additional supplies courtesy April and Brenda). As I was busy making basic friendship bracelet knots, I got to know Lisa and Gena better, too.
Other highlights included meeting Jules, who is every bit as gorgeous and fun and warm as she comes across on her blog, where I first found out about this meetup. And Andrea is so inviting, not to mention the most beautiful pregnant woman ever. I also met Danni, and geeked out a little bit because I've been reading her blog for what feels like forever.
Whew. Sorry if this post seems like a lot of blogger name dropping. I might be compensating because I'm so bad at names. There were so many other friendly peeps on Friday, and I truly hope to get the opportunity to hang out with everyone again. Hopefully at Craft Cabinet 2.0?
Next time I'll bring my calling card and big-girl camera. Until then, enjoy some snapshots from my point-and-shoot.

I saw your IG photos and was just dying to know what you were up to, looks like a blast!! Good for you for putting yourself out there, I think that's amazing!!
ReplyDeleteAww that's so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a blast! I wish I was craftier. I tried to organize a little crafting group with some of my friends, but of course everyone had conflicting schedules so the idea petered out. :(
ReplyDeleteAlso, I want a bucket full of Izzes. uh YUM.
I had an absolute blast and hope you did too! Your bracelet turned out great too - can't wait for next time!!
ReplyDeleteyour hair is getting so long!
ReplyDeleteIt was so fun to meet you! I love your site!
ReplyDeleteLove your dress! Looks like a fun time! I used to host a craft night but things got too busy- I need to do it again!

So nice meeting you!!! I loved your dress and this post is the perfect wrap up!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that your birthday goals and are craft related. I tried doing 35 by 35 and I failed miserably...just flat out gave up. Ha!
Thanks JJ! It was nice meeting you, too. (And if you notice someone snooping through your blog's archives, it's probably me. I love it!)
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to get serious about finishing my list, but let's get real. It will be a miracle if I finish half of it.
Crafting parties are so far out of my realm ... I think the last time I crafted on purpose was in Girl Scouts. But I had a really great time. Maybe there is crafting hope for me yet!
ReplyDeleteDitto! I just read about your daughter's pet toy inventions. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteDeanna, be honest with me: Should I get a haircut? This is the longest it's been in years, and I'm determined to try something different. But ... I miss my short, quirky hair. :-/
ReplyDeleteI was so relaxed when I left. It was fun! Is the time-out jar still going strong? That'll be my next craft because one naughty little girl just went into time-out this morning...
ReplyDeleteI hear you about plans not working out ... something always seems to come up. About being craftier. I have to remind myself that starting is half the battle. Who cares if it's perfect in the end as long as it's finished, right? ;-)
ReplyDeleteGirls' nights are so necessary from time to time, y'know?
ReplyDeleteLiv, out of all the places I've lived and made friends, I find L.A. the most challenging because people are so spread out. It's hard to find a common place to meet up. Out of everyone I know, only one friend lives within 10 miles of me. The rest are up in the Valley or out east or in Orange County. It's making me tired just thinking about it. This event was nice because people from all around were able to make it at the same time!
ReplyDeletei think it looks cute on you! i'm jealous of the natural wavy-ness your hair has.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! We have a great blogging group here in Seattle but there are so many socal bloggers I am dying to meet (you included, of course!). maybe I can coordinate a work trip with the next one of these :D
ReplyDeleteYou should! I want to meet you, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Sometimes I think I tuck my hair behind my ears too much -- looks like I have a righteous mullet.
ReplyDeleteGreat wrap-up post, great pics. It was good to meet you, wish we could've talked a little more! (Next time.)
ReplyDeleteNext time, definitely!
ReplyDeleteVanessa I loved meeting you! And I loved your haircut. Your friendship bracelet inspired me--next meetupI think I will bring those braided barrettes I used to wear as a kid.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your maxidress - and your party pics - look so FUN!
