FAQ

Any questions?

What does "Little Gray Pixel" mean?
When I was working on opening my photography store I was looking for a name with some deep meaning. Ha! And, while I was editing an image and zoomed in at about 500 percent it hit me: If you look at anything close enough you see that everything can be boiled down to one little gray pixel. Plus I liked the way it sounded as it rolled off my tongue.

What cameras do you use for your photography? Do you do a lot of post-processing?
My workhorses are the Olympus E-500 Evolt and Canon PowerShot SD780IS. I sometimes break out my Nikon SLR for film shots, and my Argus 75 and Kodak Brownie for TtV images, but I have to admit that I'm falling prey to my phone camera more and more often, especially now with an infant. It's just so convenient, you know? Look, she's smiling! Hurry up! But I'm trying to rely less on it and grab that Olympus more often. Back when I used to play around in the darkroom I liked to experiment with different filters and fun effects, so I'm a big advocate of playing around in Photoshop or Gimp. I'm not a purist by any stretch of the imagination. I like to create moods -- not reality -- with my photography.

You write a lot about The Strokes. Do you like any other bands?
The Beatles are my favorite all-time band. This relationship goes back to when I was a kid and would listen to records on my dad's turntable. My dad influenced a lot about what music I like today.
But, about The Strokes, they are my favorite current band. I've seen them in concert more times than I care to count here and they always BRING IT.

If you could photograph any celebrity, living or dead, who would it be?
Ooh, a tough one. I'll say Jack Kerouac. There aren't an awful lot of pictures of him, and the ones that exist aren't all that good. I think I could catch him off-guard. All I'd have to do is ply him with vats of liquor and eventually he might start to talk to me about spontaneous prose.

What is your novel about? Don't you have an agent yet?
I'd like to say "BUY IT TO FIND OUT!" but alas it is not available for purchase as of today. It's about a girl who thinks she can escape her bleak future if only she can procure a seat on the bus with her favorite rock band. And it's hilarious/infuriating/poignant/quirky. The perfect beach read. Are you an agent? Holla at me. You'll like it, I promise.
